Portrait of a Ambonees girl

Elisabeth - Portrait in charcoal, 60 x80 cm.

In Holland live many people from Ambon, Indonesia. Indonesia, in former times "Indië" was a Dutch colonie, as you maybe will know. After the second world war, there came many of them to Holland, first in camps and after so many years they are integrated and live here in normal houses.

By drawing a portrait it is very important to get the character of a person and so you see also the type of the human race.

You have always to draw what you see and not what you know, a fault that many people make. For instance: a Europeen nose and mouth have a real different form and you have to forget that forms, which are in your memory and only observe  what you see now!!!
